"Man has been making a fool of himself, proving what is obvious, puffing with pride as he repeats his proofs, and living on that alone! - Rimbaud

"Sometimes I wake up and I don't know where I am." - Rambo

Geraldine Swayne, is a London based artist (painter, writer, musician, photographer and filmmaker) who makes darkly seductive paintings that evolve around a metaphysical world. A world peopled with a cast of strange, lost, and loved characters, both imagined and known to the artist. These are coaxed out of paint or ink in a highly charged manner that shows both a dextrous and emotive understanding of the materials and subject without pandering to the illustrative, the obvious or the sentimental. In short - quite wonderous things that talk openly and invite the viewer in, whilst retaining their mystery and hidden causes.

Geraldine is currently enjoying collaborations with the legendary Krautrock band Faust as well as being in ...Bender with James Johnston (Gallon Drunk/Bad Seeds/Husband) and Steve Gullick (the photographer). She is also a photographer, poet and writer and director of experimental films. She once went to art college in Newcastle before escaping to the south of France and New Orleans; worked at the Wooster Group in New York, ( an experience so dismal, it was a welcome relief to flee the theatre from the collapsing World Trade Centre); and for two years enjoyed helping rebuild "Hell" for the Chapman brothers. She also made the world's first home-movie on Imax, (for world-wide distribution), and is generally known as a good person, deserving of all things that the world has to offer her.

From some notes to the aquarium by Geraldine Swayne, November 2007

Revenge.
Everywhere and at all times. For myself and for small, bullied and defenceless things. Against wearisome power abusers, the wilfully stupid and the relentless, casual, daily, all-infecting, all abusing, misogynist, idiot, twittering ninny, 'I know I'm right, you're weird', half-day, fucking bastards etc

Painting.
Everything. A sludge door opening for seconds onto moments of perfect universal resonance and then hopefully staying there, and not going back to sludge…......Tricky.
