The much awaited first ‘official publication of a cult novel. Originally appearing in hand stamped covers with no author, no ISBN and no barcode some 300 copies were planted in bookshops across the UK encouraging the finders to pocket the book for free.

Apparently written by the backward schoolboy Gustav Claudius. ‘The Idiocy of Idears’ is a book of pathos, sarcasm and great charm. Continually confounding the reader with its mainstream of childish glee and occasional lapses into precocious sophistication.

This edition is made from the last 100 copies of the first paperback edition originally published by Codex in 1997. You can now get an overpriced paperback version from Virgin Books but this is something special.

11cm x 8.5cm Edition of 50 signed and numbered with a painted front cover, a woodcut tipped in on the inside of the front board and hand stamped titles. There are three different woodcuts and all the covers feature the 'no such number' but vary greatly.

Hardback. This book was made by Billy Childish and the aquarium for an exhibition in 2004. It contains 6 colour plates of self portraits painted that year based on paintings made 22 years earlier. It also includes a photograph and a drawing from 1982, an artists' statement about the project, and a poem. Everything is exquisitely pigment printed on enhanced art paper, premium photographic paper and lining wallpaper. Hand cut, torn and collated, and bound in the boards covered with the finest Belgium linen.
